Hemingway selbst zitiert als Motto des Romans den älteren Lyriker und Mystiker John Donne
(1572 – 1631)

Dieser Text steht am Fuß der Figur.

Die geisterhafte Gestalt kann über den Kurbelarm bewegt werden.
Dann läutet die Glocke. Ein Ruf zum Mitgefühl.

Known as a novel title by Ernest Hemingway – the touching account of love and dying in the Spanish Civil War.
Hemingway himself quotes as the novel’s motto the elderly lyricist and mystic John Donne (1572 – 1631)
Here is the original:

The ghostly figure can be moved via the crank arm.
Then the bell rings. A call to compassion.
